ADMINISTRATION & FORMS |
|
As underwriters and marketers for several different insurance companies and products, MGU of the West maintains a supply of enrollment, claim and administrative forms for our clients. These forms can be requested by e-mail or telephoning our Sacramento Administrative Office at (916) 971-2424. To better serve your administrative needs, MGU of the West is working with its insurance partners to provide online forms through Adobe Acrobat.
Common areas for administrative errors and mishaps are:
· Not enrolling eligible employees before a claim event. These results in claim denial and appeal, which creates stress for the patient and employee, and can shift the claim responsibility to the group.
· Not adding a new dependent in a timely manner can result in claim delays. To avoid claim difficulties, have each employee enroll newly acquired spouses and children within 30 days of marriage, custody or birth.
· Covered employees that have not updated their life insurance beneficiaries. Once an insured has expired, it is too late to change the beneficiary. As a result, a life insurance claim is paid to the wrong beneficiary or to the court, which ultimately decides on the disposition of the benefits.
· Communicating open enrollment information to newly eligible employees in a timely manner may provide valuable benefits to employees that may not otherwise pass underwriting. A well-informed employee is a happy and properly insured employee.
· Not updating income records on a long-term disability plan can result in under paying benefits to eligible employees.
· Non-notification of a potential large claim to a medical stop loss reinsurance company may result in a claim denial. As a result, the employer may be responsible for a claim amounting to hundreds of thousands of dollars.
· Review your plan document annually. Avoid the pitfalls associated with improperly classifying employees and contributing to claim denials.
Each one of these mishaps can be avoided by establishing a complete employee notification program. This program coupled with support from your broker, third party administrator, MGU of the West, and insurance company will pay huge dividends. |
